Cinedigm, Voltage partner with Rapid Eye

Weber's sci-fi thriller 'Unraveling' is first title

Cinedigm and Voltage Pictures are partnering on a three-year, five-picture output deal with newly minted genre label Rapid Eye Film.

Founded by filmmaker Marco Weber, Rapid Eye will develop, finance and produce the films, and Cinedigm will provide a U.S. theatrical release plus VOD, digital, TV and DVD. Nic Chartier’s Voltage Pictures will handle international sales.

Weber’s sci-fi thriller “Unraveling” is the first title under the partnership. Casting is under way, with Weber directing from his own script and producing alongside his longtime producing partner Vanessa Coifman (“A Late Quartet”) and Miggel Schwickerath (“The Informers”).

“Unraveling,” which will shoot in Los Angeles this spring, is described as a cross between “Angel Heart” and “Seven.”

“Marco and I have a long and successful history, going back to ‘Igby Goes Down,'” said Chris McGurk, chairman-CEO of Cinedigm.

Cinedigm also announced that it has picked up Weber’s directorial debut “Leashed” for digital distribution in the U.S. and several international territories. The teen thriller featuring Chad Lowe and starring Gia Mantegna and Devon Werkheiser premiered at the Sitges Intl. Fantastic Film Festival in competition.
