Cinedigm has named Tom Hassell VP of theatrical distribution, bringing the Columbia Pictures and FilmDistrict vet onboard to run all aspects of theatrical releasing for the digitally focused indie film distributor.
Hassell brings some three decades’ experience in major motion picture distribution to Cinedigm, whose April acquisition of New Video created a full service, end-to-end digital studio that includes a library and distribution on theatrical, digital and on-demand platforms and disc formats.
“I am very excited about joining such a forward-looking company of smart and innovative people,” Hassell said. “I look forward to being part of what is, and will be, a compelling force in the changing landscape of the entertainment business.”
Susan Margolin, co-prexy of Cinedigm’s entertainment group, noted Cinedigm’s array of releases in 2012, from five-screen targeted runs to 1,000-screen bows, including day-and-date patterns, with more to come in 2013.
“Tom will play a critical role in releasing these films in the ‘Cinedigm’ way – putting producers first, being good partners to the exhibition community and bringing compelling content to demanding audiences,” she said.
