Bruce Dern to Receive Career Achievement Award at Palm Springs Fest

Following his critically acclaimed performance in Alexander Payne’s “Nebraska,” Bruce Dern will be feted with the career achievement award at the 25th annual Palm Springs International Film Festival Awards Gala. The ceremony will be held Jan. 4 at the Palm Springs Convention Center, hosted by Mary Hart.

Bruce Dern is truly a one of a kind performer,” said festival chairman Harold Matzner. “His skill at capturing the essence of a character, no matter how complex or unorthodox, is unique and unparalleled.”

Dern has appeared in more than 80 features films, including “Django Unchained,” “Bloody Sunday,” “Monster,” “The ‘Burbs” and “Coming Home,” which earned him an Academy Award nom for supporting actor.

He’s recently been attracting attention for his role in “Nebraska” as a cantankerous father who drags his son, played by Will Forte, on a road trip to claim a sweepstakes prize. June Squibb, Stacy Keach and Bob Odenkirk also appear in the film, which has been gaining Oscar buzz.

Dern joins the ranks of past career achievement honorees, including Glenn Close, Robert Duvall, Clint Eastwood, Sally Field, Morgan Freeman and Helen Mirren.

PSIFF runs Jan. 3-13.
