Get in the Picture, Mantar board Ortiz pic
New Barcelona-based shingle Get in the Picture Prods. is teaming with Turkey’s Mantar Film to produce “The Bride,” the sophomore outing of Paula Ortiz, whose “Chrysalis” was one of Spain most notable debuts of 2011.Regional pubcaster Aragon TV also co-produces. “Bride” will adapt “Bodas de sangre,” a revenge tragedy written for the stage by Spanish surrealistic poet Federico Garcia Lorca, who was murdered in 1936 by fascists. “Bride” is penned by Ortiz. Get in the Pictures’ partners are Ortiz, Alex Lafuente, former acquisitions director of conglom Vertice 360, and L.A.-based producer Rosana Tomas. Producers are in talks with potential German and French partners for “Bride,” according to Lafuente. Zentropa Intl., Amapola Films and Oria Films produced Ortiz’s debut “Chrysalis,” which won best director kudo at 2011’s Valladolid Festival in Spain. “Chrysalis” also won a best score award and a jury special mention at the 16th Shanghai Festival. Principal photography is skedded to begin in Turkey’s Cappadocia this fall. “I know the shooting will be difficult, but Cappadocia’s unreal landscape gives a singular poetic strength to Lorca’s symbolism,” Ortiz explained. Get in the Picture aims to produce at least a pic per year. “Films will always have an international profile and extensive development,” Lafuente told Variety.
