The film kicks off its extended Easter frame in line for a $45 million-$50 million four-day debut, with 53 day-and-date markets also skedded to bow the pic this weekend.
Overseas prospects are promising considering the film’s 3D upcharge in markets like Russia and throughout Asia. The film, which also has the benefit of Imax, could see a bow north of $50 million internationally.
“G.I. Joe: Retaliation” cost $130 million to make (not including marketing), from co-producers MGM and Skydance Prods. Jon Chu directed the film, which stars Dwayne Johnson, Channing Tatum and Bruce Willis.
Par launches the film at roughly 3,700 domestic locations, including 302 Imax screens. Pic’s international footprint represents 75% of the overseas market; China is slated to bow April 15.
