French-Algerian helmer-producer Rachid Bouchareb is set to produce “Meurtre entre soeurs,” the feature debut of French star Sami Bouajila.Bouajila starred in Bouchareb’s “Days of Glory,” which earned him and the cast an acting nod at Cannes, and “Outside the Law,” which also competed at Cannes and repped Algeria in the foreign-language Oscar race. Project, based at Willa Marsh’s Sisters Under the Skin, was scripted by Zoe Galeron and Bouajila. The €3.8 million ($5 million) French-language adaptation of the British novel turns on adult half-sisters, Lili and Emma, who move back into the family home with their mother following the death of their father, much to the chagrin of their younger sister, Rose. It stars Dominique Blanc, Claude Perron, Julie Ferrier, Edith Scob and Francine Berge. Pic is produced by Bouchareb and Jean Brehat at Paris-based Tessalit, in co-production with Belgium’s Scopeinvest. Jean Labadie’s Le Pacte has nabbed all rights to the film, including French distribution and international sales. Lensing will kick off in September in France. Tessalit also produced “Omar Killed Me,” the sophomore pic of Roschdy Zem, who starred in “Glory” and “Law.” In other Tessalit news, Brenda Blethyn has joined the cast of Bouchareb’s “Enemy’s Way” (previously titled “Bill’s Law”), the English-language pic based on Jose Giovanni’s 1973 classic psychological drama “Deux hommes dans la ville.” Pic centers on the friendship between a reformed gangster and his parole officer. Blethyn will star as the parole officer, a part was previously played by Alain Delon. Forest Whitaker toplines as a Muslim ex-con parolee. Pic is produced by Bouchareb and Brehat via their U.S. shingle Taghit and their Paris-based Tessalit Prods. Pathe reps the film in international markets. Bouchareb penned the script with writing partner Olivier Lorelle, transposing the action from 1970s France to a modern-day small town in Arizona, near the Mexican border. Lensing is skedded for April.
