Anchorman The Legend Continues

In two days, Paramount’s “Anchorman 2: The Legend Continues” has grossed $13.2 million, with an estimated $5.1 million on Thursday.

The PG-13 rated film is expected to gross in the low-$30 millions in three days and around $45 million in five, with teens helping give the comedy a long box office career.

The pre-holiday launchpad for the screwball comedy raised a few eyebrows, especially considering that few laffers bow during this time. One comedy that was similarly timed though with far less buzz, Universal’s 2010 comedy sequel, “Little Fockers,” also opened midweek this same frame, grossing $30 million Friday-Sunday.

Comparatively, “Anchorman 2″ has grossed slightly less than that film in its first two days. Par expects its release to pick up with teens and college students on break Friday, however.

Also opening or expanding nationwide this weekend is Fox’s animated feature “Walking With Dinosaurs,” pegged for an opening in the low teens, along with Disney’s “Saving Mr. Banks” (which is tracking similarly) and Sony’s “American Hustle,” expected to gross close to $20 million in its first frame in wide release.

Warner Bros.’ “Her” opens limited on Friday at six Stateside locations. Sony Pictures Classics’ “The Past” bows at three.
