Alanis Morissette and Shannyn Sossamon have been cast in “The Price of Desire,” a new romantic period drama based on the life of architect Eileen Gray that’s getting a little extra help from Kickstarter – but in an unexpected way.

Sossamon will play Gray, who falls in love with the famous Swiss/French architect Le Corbusier, played by Swiss actor Vincent Perez. Morisette will play Gray’s lover Marisa Damia.

EG Film Productions Limited, Lightstream Pictures and Saga Film will produce the pic, which “The Bridge of San Luis Rey” director Mary McGuckian. Entertainment One is set to distribute the pic in France and Canada.

Much of the movie takes place in Gray’s authentic French villa, one of the first homes she designed. Producers will shoot some of the pic there as well, and have launched a Kickstarter campaign to help restore the home with re-created Parisian interiors. Production designer Anne Seibel, who earned an Oscar nom for her work on “Midnight in Paris, is working Emmanuelle Pucci to create the home’s aesthetic.

Pic is an Irish-Belgian co-production between EG Film Productions Limited, Pembridge Pictures and Lightstream Pictures co-venture, in association with Windmill Lane Pictures in Ireland and Saga Film in Belgium. Entertainment One is on board to release the pic in France and Canada.

“Price” is the latest indie to try and cash in on the Kickstarter craze. In March, the producers behind a feature version of “Veronica Mars” broke records when fans helped fund the pic’s $2 million budget in a matter of hours. And earlier this month, Zach Braff began a fundraising effort to “Wish I Was Here,” a follow-up to his 2004 pic “Garden State.”
