Scandi giant TrustNordisk has picked up international sales rights to Virginia Heath’s feature debut “Mystery Ride,” a thriller toplining Kelly Reilly (“Flight”), Sam Neill (“A Long Way Down”) and Peter Mullan (“War Horse”).
The thriller follows Kate Connelly (Reilly), a young woman who returns to the isolated town of Tarawera in rural New Zealand following the death of her unfaithful husband, Jack (Neill). Kate wants to sell the family farm to clear Jack’s debts and leave as soon as possible. But when she re-encounters Ray, a brooding, handsome Maori guy, Kate discovers selling the farm and leaving might not be quite so simple.
Heath’s short “Relativity” won best short film at Berlin in 2002 and earned a nom at the European Film Awards. She is currently directing the docu “Oursels as ithers see us.”
“Ride” is produced by Grant Keir from Faction North and Lene Bausager from Ugly Duckling Films; and co-produced by Randolph Paul. Project’s development is being supported by New Zealand Film Commission and Creative Scotland.
Pic currently in pre-production and will start shooting during the last quarter of 2014.
