Studio-level deal pending for Benny Chan-directed actioner
Hong Kong action thriller “The White Storm,” which is set as the closing film of the Rome festival, has proved a draw at the American Film Market.
The Benny Chan-directed cop thriller was acquired for South Korea by distributor Main Title. It was acquired for Japan by Culture Convenience Club, which also took sales agency Universe International’s “Out Of Inferno.”
Universe says that it has closed a deal for North America with a “studio-level” distributor for “Storm,” though it is bound by confidentiality clauses until the long-form contract is competed.
The picture, which stars Sean Lau Ching-wan, Louis Koo and Nick Cheung, will have its international premiere in Rome next week (Nov. 17) and is set for release in mainland China through Bona Film on Nov. 29. It releases in Hong Kong on Dec. 5.
“Out of Inferno 3D” is the big budget fire-fighters actioner directed by the Pang brothers and released recently in China. Universe also scored deals in South Korea with TCC, in India and the Middle East with Metro Pictures and in Latin America with Borsalino.
