AFM: Robert De Niro’s ‘Candy Store’ Heading for Shooting Next Year

Gaghan set to start shooting next year

In a pre-American Film Market move, Worldview Entertainment has signed on to finance and produce the crime thriller “Candy Store,” starring Robert De Niro, Jason Clarke and Omar Sy.

Lotus will handle international sales and introduce the film to buyers next week at AFM. CAA, which packaged and arranged financing for the film, will represent domestic rights.

Principal photography will begin next year with Stephen Gaghan directing from a screenplay he wrote with Shannon Burke. Producers include Gaghan; Allison Shearmur through Allison Shearmur Prods.; Worldview’s CEO Christopher Woodrow and chief operating officer Molly Conners; and Nicolas Gonda and Ryan Rettig for Ironwood, which is making an investment in the film.

“Candy Store” is the story of an undercover agent who begins a new life as a beat cop in Brooklyn, but finds that his past life comes back to haunt him.

Exec producers include Worldview’s Maria Cestone and Sarah E. Johnson; Lotus’ Bill Johnson and Jim Seibel; Michael G. Macs for Ironwood; Allyn Stewart and Kipp Nelson for Flashlight Films; and Suzanne Joskow for Unsupervised.
