AFM: Heretic Nabs Distribution Rights to Doc ‘Kwanini?’ (EXCLUSIVE)

AFM American Film Market Placeholder

Heretic Films has come on board to distribute Sylvia Caminer’s documentary “Kwanini?” theatrically in the U.S. and on all digital platforms.

As part of the distribution agreement, Heretic has entered into a partnership with Caminer allowing the filmmaker to earn profits while the distributor re-coups costs. Once a pre-determined level is reached, Heretic acquires all worldwide rights.

“Kwanini?,” which means “Why?” in Swahili, focuses on Tanzanian native Venance Ndibalema, who teaches physics in the U.S., and his American friend Kristen Kenny as they journey across Tanzania. The film explores the cultural differences and unexpected similarities as the two friends make a journey that saw Kenny nearly die from malaria.

The theatrical release will benefit the charity Malaria No More, aimed at ending malaria deaths in Africa. The $1 contribution for each ticket sold covers a full course of treatment for malaria.
