Dome Is Where the Art Is as Academy Museum Takes Shape: A Photo Gallery

Dome Is Where the Art Is

For the Academy Museum of Motion Pictures, there’s no place like dome.

In advance of tonight’s (April 11, 2013) invitation-only gathering to celebrate initial donations toward its $300 million capital campaign and encourage additional ones, the Academy of Motion Picture Arts & Sciences has released new information about its proposed museum, scheduled to open in 2017.

Highlighted among the new revelations is a giant sphere that will be placed north of the museum’s soon-to-be-renovated main building at Wilshire and Fairfax, along the Miracle Mile. The addition will house the museum’s state-of-the-art premiere-sized theater as well as a roof terrace with expansive views of the city.

More views of the planned museum, its roots and evolution can be seen in the gallery below:

The Academy has also posted a video touting the new features and the historical significance of the site:

enough with the dumb wordplay. oh my god. ‘dome is where the art is’, ‘theres no place like dome’. stop it. please.

    • dome wasn't built in a day says:

just joking, of course. and I give full permission to use ‘dome won’t be built in a day’ as a headline when construction begins.
