ABF fest to close with ‘Kevin Hart’

Lionsgate, Codeblack will release comedy tour movie

The world premiere of “Kevin Hart: Let Me Explain” will be the closing night film at the American Black Film Festival in Miami on June 22.

Lionsgate and Codeblack plan to release the stand-up comedy movie, based on Hart’s comedy tour of the same name, on July 4.

The festival, now in its 17th year, has also announced that the winning film of its narrative competition will receive a theatrical release through AMC in up to 10 U.S. markets. The winner will be announced on closing night.

AMC is partnering with the ABFF through its AMC Independent program, which highlights independent films and filmmakers.

“One thing I’m sure of is African-Americans want to see a broader range of black films in theaters,” said festival founder Jeff Friday.

“There is a tremendous amount of goodwill associated with the ABFF brand and I’m encouraged that people will come out in support of our upcoming releases.”
