Exec will oversee company's new releases 'Under the Skin,' 'Enemy'
Newbie independent label A24 has tapped Heath Shapiro to run its distribution efforts. He will be based in the company’s New York headquarters.
Shapiro comes from the Weinstein Co.’s alternative distribution brand Radius-TWC. Prior to that he was a veteran employee at Samuel Goldwyn Films.
“A24 has done such a fantastic job with their films up to this point,” Shapiro said. “I’m incredibly excited to join the team and help bring these movies to the widest audience possible.”
Shapiro will transition into his new role at A24, beginning with distribution and marketing of the company’s 2014 slate, including Jonathan Glazer’s Scarlett Johansson sci-fier “Under the Skin” and “Prisoners” helmer Denis Villeneuve’s newest collaboration with Jake Gyllenhaal, “Enemy.”
A24 has had early success with such indie hits as “Spring Breakers,” which grossed more than $14 million at the domestic box office, “The Spectacular Now” and “The Bling Ring,” both of which earned more than $5 million each.
