'Dorothy's Return' features voices by Kelsey Grammer, Jim Belushi, Dan Aykroyd

Summertime Entertainment has signed a distribution deal with Clarius Entertainment for the 3D animated musical film “Legends of Oz: Dorothy’s Return.”

The release date will be slated for 1st quarter of 2014.

The film is inspired by “The Wonderful Wizard of Oz” by L. Frank Baum and the Oz adventure book series written by his great-grandson, Roger Stanton Baum. In the story, Dorothy returns to Kansas to find it devastated by the tornado that had whisked her away to Oz.

The film is voiced by Lea Michele (Dorothy), Jim Belushi (Lion), Dan Aykroyd (Scarecrow), Kelsey Grammer (Tin Man) and Bernadette Peters (Glinda). Patrick Stewart, Hugh Dancy, Megan Hilty, Oliver Platt and Martin Short are voicing new characters.

The musical contains songs by Bryan Adams and the soundtrack album will be released by Sony Entertainment’s Columbia/Epic label.

Summertime Entertainment founders Ryan Carroll and Roland Carroll are producing with animation veteran Bonne Radford. Daniel St. Pierre and Will Finn are directing.

“We’re bringing Oz to a new generation while preserving and honoring the heart and soul of Oz that we all know and love- and with the musical aspect which is such an important part of that world,” said Radford.

Terms of the financing and distribution were led by Sheldon Rabinowitz, Summertime’s business and financial advisor.
