Options for financing films across Europe come under the spotlight today at two industry events held in co-operation with Variety.Exploring the Russian Film Industry kicks off at 2 p.m. at the Hungarian Cultural Institute in Berlin featuring “Cloud Atlas” co-producer Alexander Rodnyansky; Michael Schlicht, head of Sony Pictures Entertainment Russia; Elena Romanova, head of the international department of the Russian Cinema Fund; Andy Vajna, the Hollywood producer who now heads Hungary’s national film fund; and Moscow-based independent producer Yevgeny Gindilis. Nick Holdsworth, Variety’s Eastern Europe bureau chief, moderates the discussion. An invited audience of regional and national film fund chiefs, producers and distributors from across central and Eastern Europe are due to attend the event, which will be streamed live on Variety.com. The panel, Rebuilding the Euro Model: Needs and Opportunities, follows at 4:30 p.m. at EFM’s Martin Gropius Bau Mirror Restaurant with Martin Moszkowicz, head of film and TV at Constantin Film; Jean-Baptiste Babin of French consultancy Backup Media Group; Leonardo M. Barros of Brazil’s Conspiracao Filmes; and Catherine Mtsitouridze, head of Russian foreign film promotional body Roskino. John Hopewell, Variety’s chief international foreign correspondent, chairs the panel.
