SND sews up ‘Laurent’ deals

Hot seller for Gallic shingle

The SND-backed “Yves Saint Laurent” has proven to be one of the hot French title hitting this year’s EFM.

Following a raft of deals closed at the start of the market, Jalil Lespert’s pic pre-sold to Germany/Austria (Square One), Czech Republic (AQS), Switzerland (Pathe) and Turkey (Mediamax). SND also closed a deal with EIM (Entertainment in Motion) for airline distribution.

Previous EFM sales were inked with Entertainment One (U.K., Canada and Australia), AB Svensk (Scandinavia), Top Film Distribution (Russia and CIS), Lusomundo (Portugal), ITI Cinema (Poland) and Italia Films (Middle East).

SND, which is the sales arm of the commercial broadcaster, is in advanced negotiations with buyers from Italy, Greece, Israel, Benelux and Romania; and expects the close deals by the end of the market.

Project has also sparked strong interest in United States, Japan and Latin America.

Produced by Wy Productions, pic toplines French up-and-comer Pierre Niney as Saint Laurent and Guillaume Gallienne as his partner and collaborator Pierre Berge.

A rival Yves Saint Laurent biopic, helmed by Bertrand Bonello, is being shopped at the market by Films Distribution. The SND-backed pic has received Berge’s stamp of approval and is reportedely the more mainstream project of the two
