Renier boards Mandarin’s ‘YSL’

Thesp to play Pierre Berge in Films Distribution title

BERLIN — Fast-rising French cinema star Jeremie Renier is set for Bruno Bonello’s “Yves Saint Laurent,” playing the part of Saint Laurent’s lifetime partner and business associate Pierre Berge.

Produced by Mandarin Cinema, “Yves Saint Laurent” is being brought onto the international market for the first time at Berlin by Films Distribution.

As already announced, Gaspar Ulliel (“The Princess of Montpensier”) limns Yves Saint Laurent himself.

First discovered by the Dardenne brothers in their own 1996 break-through film “The Promise,” Renier, now 32, confirmed his range with a storming performance as troubled French singer Claude Francois in “My Way.”

Renier is currently toplining action thriller “The Brotherhood of Tears,” which Films Distribution in selling at Berlin.

“Renier is one of the outstanding and most versatile actors of his generation, groomed for a career abroad,” said Films Distribution’s Nicolas Brigaud-Robert.

SND is repping another “Yves Saint Laurent” movie at Berlin, from Jalil Lesper (“Headwinds”), with Pierre Niney (“J’aime regarder les filles”) as the fashion designer.
