Juri wins over auds with ‘Someone’

EFP Shooting Stars 2013: Carla Juri

Carla Juri

Switzerland

Credits: “180 Degrees” (2010), “Someone Like Me” (2012), “Fossil” (2012)

Juri won the Swiss Film Prize for her romantically charming lead role in Xavier Koller’s “Someone Like Me,” playing a sweet, rich girl in early 19th century Bern who falls for an impoverished, disfigured but charismatic barber. She followed that with her English-speaking debut in Alex Walker’s chiller “Fossil.” The jury said, “She has a real talent for portraying people with secrets. Her seductively romantic face hides a fascinating ability for surprising audiences by never letting them guess what her character is going to do.”
