Deal closed Thursday at EFM

Image Entertainment has bought U.S. rights to Jeff Renfroe’s sci-fi thriller “The Colony.”

Deal closed Thursday at the European Film Market in Berlin, where screenings will be held Friday and Sunday. WME, Paradigm, and Sierra/Affinity handled domestic rights with Sierra/Affinity handling foreign sales.

The film was produced by Paul Barkin, Matthew Cervi and Pierre Even.

“The Colony” stars Laurence Fishburne, Kevin Zegers and Bill Paxton and carries a budget of over $16 million. It’s first film shot at the decommissioned NORAD. (North American Aerospace Defense) Command Base in North Bay, Ontario.

Story is set in the aftermath of an Ice Age among survivors living underground as food supplies dwindle and temperatures continue to drop. Plagued by illness and internal conflict, one set of “colonists” suspect the worst when they mysteriously lose contact with the only other known settlement.

The deal was negotiated by Bill Bromiley, Mark Ward and Michael Bayer on behalf of Image
