Drama stars Rooney Mara, Casey Affleck and Ben Foster
Sources familiar with the dealmaking process said the deal closed around 4 a.m. Friday morning.
Pic was produced by Lars Knudsen and Jay Van Hoy of Parts & Labor along with Toby Halbrooks, James M. Johnston, Amy Kaufman and Cassian Elwes, who negotiated the deal on behalf of the filmmakers along with WME, which reps Lowery and pic’s three stars.
Exec producers include Evolution Entertainment’s Mark Burg, Robert Ogden Barnum, Jesse Kennedy, Logan Levy, Fredrik Malmberg, Michael Menchel, Daniel Wagner, and Harvey and Bob Weinstein, whose Weinstein Co. has foreign rights.
Story follows an outlaw (Affleck) who escapes from prison and sets out across the Texas hills to reunite with his wife (Mara) and the daughter he has never met.
Variety’s review called the film “slow as molasses but every bit as rich, Lowery’s gorgeously shot third feature may be too lyrical for mainstream expectations, though strong reviews and a star cast should make this romantic deconstruction of classic outlaw pictures a powerful indie player.”
