Brazil bows Sales Agents Support

Berlinale to see first $40,000 award

MADRID

Brazilian film org Cinema do Brasil is set to give sales agents $40,000 to promote local films playing at major festivals.

It will kick off the initiative at next month’s Berlinale where the world preems of helmer Bruno Barreto’s “Reaching for the Moon” and first-time director Maria Florencia Alvarez’s “Habi, the Foreigner” unspool in the Panorama sidebar.

CDB will repeat the offer at the Cannes, Locarno, Venice and San Sebastian fests.

Sales agents put aside $50,000-$100,000 to promote titles at major fests, so $40,000 is a considerable sum.

CDB chairman Andre Sturm said, “Promoting a film selected in these events is costly work. This action provides resources to sales agents who have Brazilian films in important festivals, to allow them to do an even better job.”
