Bossa Nova, Wood Prods. go to ‘Circus’

It's Teixeira's first pic since 2007

Having co-produced Sundance Festival Jury Prize winner “Violeta Went to Heaven,” Brazil’s Bossa Nova Films and Chile’s Wood Prods. are re-teaming on “The Santo Amaro Circus.”

It’s helmer-scribe Chicho Teixeira’s first pic since her 2007 Berlin Panorama player “Alice’s House.”

Bossa Nova, which put up minority equity for “Violeta,” will lead produce. “Alice’s” lead, Carla Ribas, will co-star; Francisca Gavilan, who played “Violeta,” limns a circus performer.

Screenplay is by Teixeira, Brazilian director Marcelo Gomes and Sabina Anzuategui, who all worked on “House.” Cesar Turin also co-writes.

A coming-of-age drama set in Sao Paulo, “Circus” turns on a conflicted teen who finds a sense of escape and safety in at a cirus.

“Circus” will shoot from September, having tapped grants from the Sao Paulo City Hall and regional Sao Paulo government plus private investment.

Imovision will release “Circus” in Brazil.

Bossa Nova is in advanced talks with a potential French co-producer and may also attract a German co-production partner.
