Mathieu Robinet, who joined Paris-based arthouse shingle Bac Majestic as international sales agent in 2011, has been upped to managing director of Bac Films Distribution.
Robinet will now oversee the outfit’s operations, including acquisitions, marketing, distribution (theatrical, video, TV) and worldwide sales. Gilles Sousa will continue to head international sales.
Robinet will report to Roch Lener, prexy of Bac Majestic.
The Parisian exec kicked off his career at London’s Future Films and later joined MK2’s business affairs department. He then topped acquisitions and international sales at Overlook and Funny Balloons before launching his production vehicle, Reverence, in 2011.
Bac Films Distribution is rolling off a strong 2012 with such releases as Jane Fonda starrer “All Together,” which grossed more than $5 million, the toon feature “Nico 2,” which took $6.7 million, and Michel Franco’s Un Certain Regard winner “Despues de Lucia,” which earned an estimated $678,000 on 45 prints.
Bac’s anticipated rollouts in France include Baltasar Kormakur’s “Deep,” Gael Garcia Bernal’s “The Ardor,” helmed by Pablo Fendrik, and Paolo Virzi
’s “Human Capital.” Bac is shopping all three pics at Berlin.
Shingle has also nabbed acquired Fernando Trueba’s “The Artist and The Model” and “Oggy and the Cockroaches,” the bigscreen adaptation of hit cartoon franchise for French distribution.
