The poster for the 66th Cannes Film Festival again evokes a retro theme, featuring a 1963 photo of Joanne Woodward and Paul Newman. The couple was photographed during the shoot of Mel Shavelson’s “A New Kind of Love.”
Newman and Woodward starrer “The Long Hot Summer” played in Cannes in 1958, the year they were married.
“The vision of these two lovers caught in a vertiginous embrace, oblivious of the world around them, invites us to experience cinema with all the passion of an everlasting desire,” said the Festival in a statement about the design of the poster from the Bronx agency.
This year the fest also debuts an animated film for the poster, with a soundtrack of a remixed version of the Festival’s musical theme.
