Spielberg: DreamWorks Set to Produce Kashmir Pic

Pic to be produced with Reliance Entertainment

LONDON – Steven Spielberg has revealed that DreamWorks is prepping a film to shoot in Kashmir, on the India-Pakistan border, with its Indian partner Reliance Entertainment.

Spielberg was in Mumbai as the guest of Reliance’s billionaire owner, Anil Ambani, to celebrate the success of “Lincoln,” which Reliance backed.

“We have finalized a script for a movie, part of it will take place on the India-Pakistan border in Kashmir. But we’re still trying to figure out the casting, locations and who’s going to direct it,” the multi-hyphenate told the Times of India.

The Indian government has recently opened up the disputed territory, which had been closed off due to tensions with the Pakistani government as well as Kashmiri Muslim militants.

Spielberg said DreamWorks and Reliance also plan to revive the Martin Luther King Jr. film first announced in 2009. “I wouldn’t call it a biopic, it’s more a story of King and the movement and also about how his admiration for Mahatma Gandhi helped to shape his moral core.”

The next “Tintin” film, produced by Spielberg and directed by Peter Jackson, would “probably” begin performance capture by the end of this year and could release in the 2015 Christmas frame, but “don’t hold me to it,” Spielberg told the Times.

On Monday night, Spielberg took part in a Reliance-hosted Q&A where Bollywood star Amitabh Bachchan quizzed the filmmaker about his life and career in front of an invited audience of 61 of the country’s top industryites including Rajkumar Hirani (“3 Idiots”), Reema Kagti (“Talaash”), Homi Adajania (“Cocktail”), Anurag Kashyap (“Gangs of Wasseypur”) plus Spielberg’s wife, Kate Capshaw, and DreamWorks’ Stacey Snider.
