France’s Gaumont Picks Up ‘Grace of Monaco’

CANNES — Gaumont has nabbed French rights to Nicole Kidman-starrer “Grace of Monaco,” which is to be released Stateside by The Weinstein Company.

Helmed by Olivier Dahan (“La Vie en Rose”) and penned by Arash Amel, the 1962-set pic portrays the part Grace Kelly played in the political conflict between French prexy Charles de Gaulle and Monaco. The same year, Alfred Hitchcock attempted to tempt Kelly back to Hollywood.

Pic is produced by Pierre-Ange Le Pogam’ Stone Angels, Uday Chopra at YRF and Amel at Square Kid.

Pic also stars Tim Roth and Frank Langella.

Repped in international markets by Inferno, the film is already sold worldwide, notably the U.K. (Warner Bros), Germany (Square One) and China (Seven Stars Entertainment).

Gaumont will release the pic, which is in post, on Jan. 29.

The Weinstein Company, which is positioning the film as an Oscar contender, is unveiling the first footage at Cannes.
