Institute’s Artist Services program, which provides creatives with exclusive self-distribution, marketing and finance perks, has broadened to include films supported by the Bertha Foundation, BRITDOC, Cinereach, Film Independent, the Independent Filmmaker Project and the San Francisco Film Society. Program was launched in January 2011, and since then has raised more than $3.2 million for nearly 100 Sundance projects via Kickstarter.
“Sundance Institute embraces cross-organizational collaboration in an effort to increase the collective impact on the field,” said exec director Keri Putnam, who announced the expansion today. “Our hope is that it contributes to the long-term sustainability of independent film careers and a greater diversity of films reaching audiences each year.”
Artist Services also revealed new partnerships with Tugg, Reelhouse, VHX and Vimeo to enlarge its suite of digital tools. Current partners include 10 digital retailers, as well as Kickstarter, GoWatchIt and Topspin Media.
Tugg will allow filmmakers to create screening events at local plexes, and direct-to-fan platforms Reelhouse, VHX and Vimeo will collab with Sundance filmmakers to sell pics and merch directly to end users. All four partners will participate in the annual Artist Services Workshop on Jan. 21, at the 2013 Sundance Film Festival in Park City, Utah.
