Danish B.O. hits 30-year high

Tally totals 14.2 million admissions

LONDON — Cinema admissions in Denmark last year were at their highest level in 30 years, and 14% higher than 2011.

Box office gross totalled DKK1.09 billion ($192 million) from more than 14.2 million admissions, the best result since 1982.

“Skyfall” topped the year’s tally with $14.9 million from 911,000 admissions, followed by “The Hobbit: An Unexpected Journey,” which sold 518,000 tickets totalling $10.1 million after just two weeks. Both films are still in theaters.

In third place was a local film, Anne-Grethe Bjarup Riis’ World War II resistance drama “This Life,” which took 765,000 admissions, totalling $10 million.

Other top local pics included Susanne Bier’s “Love Is All You Need,” with 645,000 admissions ($7.2 million), and Nikolaj Arcel’s “A Royal Affair,” with 528,000 admissions ($6.3 million).

Twenty one Danish films were released last year drawing 4.1 million cinemagoers, which is 28% of the market, up from 27% in 2011, when 33 local films were released.
