The 2014 Writers Guild Awards, held simultaneously in Los Angeles and New York by the West and East branches of the org, have been set for Feb. 1.
The WGA West ceremony will return to the Marriott at L.A. Live, while the East ceremony will take place at the Edison Ballroom.
Next year’s ceremony moves up in the calendar from this year’s Feb. 17 event, following the lead of the SAG Awards (Jan. 18), PGA Awards (Jan. 19) and DGA Awards (Jan. 25). Conversely, the Oscars will be held March 2, as all the awards bodies move to get out of the way of the 2014 Winter Olympics in Sochi, Russia, taking place Feb. 7-23.
One of the tasks for next year’s WGAs will be to better synchronize the reveal of the award recipients on both coasts. In the most recent affair, attendees in New York were told of some winners as much as an hour ahead of West Coasters, with word leaking out in text messages and on Twitter.
