Austria Sends Polsler's 'Wall' on Oscar

Pic took Ecumenical Jury Prize at Berlinale

LONDON — Julian Roman Polsler’s “The Wall” has been selected as Austria’s entry in the foreign-language film Oscar race.

It tells the story of the transformation in the life of a woman (played by Martina Gedeck), who is forced to break with her old existence by an inexplicable phenomenon, “The Wall,” and live a new life in a strange and different world. The screenplay was adapted from Marlen Haushofer’s novel.

The film won the prize of the Ecumenical Jury at the Berlinale in 2012, after playing in the Panorama section.

The pic, which is repped in international markets by The Match Factory, was produced by Coop 99 Film and co-produced by Germany’s Starhaus Film.
