NBA, Turner Alley-Oop Into Twitter’s Net for Finals

NBA, Turner Alley-Oop Into Twitter's Net

NBA Digital pact with social website will feature ad-supported game highlights during league playoffs

More TV-fueled video tweets are coming: The NBA and Turner Broadcasting System announced pact with Twitter, under which they’ll post short, ad-supported “instant replay” highlight clips from the league’s 2013 finals on the social service.

Initial advertisers in the NBA highlight tweets are to include Sony Pictures Entertainment, Taco Bell and Sprint. “We greatly value the power of our NBA and Twitter business relationships. This deal is a winning collaboration,” SPE exec VP of media Stefanie Napoli said in a statement.

Other TV nets with similar Twitter deals include ESPN, Weather Channel and Viacom’s Comedy Central. And earlier this week, Fox Broadcasting touted plans at its upfront presentation to sell ads in Twitter video postings starting this summer, to promote shows and live events.

Turner Sports has already been down this road: It sent sponsored tweets with highlight video during the college basketball season.

NBA Digital tweets with the video highlights will carry the hashtag #NBARapidReplay. Here’s one from game 7 of the Brooklyn Nets-Chicago Bulls first round series, which doesn’t have a sponsor attached:
