Kevin Macdonald Readies ‘Christmas in a Day’

Docu to premiere on YouTube on Nov. 29

LONDON — Kevin Macdonald’s “Christmas in a Day,” a docu pic that looks at how Brits celebrate Christmas, will premiere on YouTube on Nov. 29.

The film is comprised of footage lensed by ordinary U.K. folk, in the same vein as Macdonald’s previous film for YouTube, “Life in a Day,” which has attracted more than 8 million views. “Christmas in a Day” was created from more than 360 hours of footage. It is produced by Ridley Scott Associates and Scott Free London.

The launch of the film on YouTube will follow a premiere screening at BAFTA in London, when Macdonald will present the finished film to the filmmakers who contributed footage.

Macdonald said: “When we made ‘Life in a Day’ we asked people around the globe to record their lives on a single ordinary day. When we were cutting that film we talked about what it might be like if we chose a day that already had significance to people. The result is ‘Christmas in a Day.’ Christmas is the one time in the whole year when ordinary British life is suspended. We have time to contemplate life and be with those we love.”

Food retailer Sainsbury’s will devote TV spots to a series of trailers promoting the film.

Macdonald’s previous credits include “Touching the Void,” “Marley” and “The Last King of Scotland.”
