If anyone can put an end to the government shutdown, it’s Olivia Pope.
A new Funny or Die video doubles as a spoof of ABC’s hit series “Scandal” and a PSA on the Affordable Pay Act. In the sketch posted last week, Jennifer Hudson plays “covert scandal manager” Lydia Cole — modeled after Kerry Washington’s “Scandal” character Olivia Pope — whose hungry for a new scandal. Unfortunately, the Affordable Care Act fixes every problem she encounters.
“My company’s health care, it doesn’t cover mammograms,” one woman complains. “The ACA covers preventative care for women’s health,” Cole says, disappointed. “Girl, go find you a scandal.”
The viral video is part of a Funny or Die initiative that enlists Hollywood A-listers to raise awareness about President Barack Obama’s healthcare reform law, which is wreaking havoc in Washington this week. Hudson, Oprah Winfrey, Alicia Keys and Amy Poehler are among the power players involved in the Hollywood-Obama joint initiative to encourage Americans to sign up for coverage.
