CES: Microsoft hires Krikorian for Xbox unit

Sling inventor sold company to tech giant

Slingbox founder Blake Krikorian will follow the company he just sold to Microsoft, joining the division overseeing Xbox.

Krikorian was named corporate vice president of Microsoft’s interactive entertainment business. He will likely focus on the integration of the home-automation technology that is the core competency of R2 Studios, the company he founded that Microsoft acquired, with Xbox.

“We are thrilled to have Blake join the Xbox team,” said chief product officer Marc Whitten, to whom Krikorian will report. “He’s a proven innovator and well-respected leader in both the media and technology industries, having created simple, elegant products that have transformed the way people engage with and consume content.”

Sling was sold to Echostar in 2007. Earlier this week, Dish employed Sling technology in an updated version of its controversial Hopper DVR, giving subscribers the ability to watch live, VOD and DVR programming outside the home.

“I look forward to helping the team define the future of entertainment and contribute to the next decade of continued innovation,” Krikorian said.
