BSkyB Opens Movie Streaming Service to Non-subscribers

More than 1,200 film titles available in U.K., Ireland

LONDON — U.K. pay TV operator BSkyB has opened up its movie streaming service, Skystore, to non-subscribers, making more than 1,200 titles available to everyone in the U.K. and Ireland.

Skystore can be accessed now on a range of platforms, including Now TV Box, Roku and the YouView box, and through its new website,

New pics will be available at the same time as they become available on DVD. Recent releases include “Man of Steel,” “The Hangover Part 3,” “Despicable Me 2” and “The Lone Ranger.” All are on offer for £3.49 ($5.71) each. Coming in the New Year will be “White House Down,” “Rush” and “Captain Phillips.”

Library titles will also be available, such as “The Godfather,” “Forrest Gump,” “Top Gun” and “Austin Powers,” which are priced from 99 pence ($1.62)-£1.99 ($3.25).

Movie rentals through Sky Store on BSkyB’s set-top box Sky+ have more than doubled year on year, with 2.1 million rentals in the three months ending Sept. 30.
