Slate of digital programming to complement existing on-air shows

Fans of Animal Planet skeins will be pleased to learn the cabler is rolling out a slate of digital programming to complement its existing on-air shows.

Original Web series will dovetail off the personalities of Animal Planet shows including “Tanked,” “Pit Boss” and “Call of the Wildman.”

“Animal Planet viewers turn first to our network for their favorite series and stars, and we look forward to helping them connect on an even deeper level with our new online series,” said Miguel Monteverde, veep of digital media at Discovery Communications. “Our mission is to delight Animal Planet’s wildly passionate audiences across all platforms.”

Web series “Shorty’s Top Dog,” which is online now, features “Pit Boss” star Shorty Rossi as he travels to Mexico on a quest to find his No. 2 dog, who will fall in line behind his main service dog Hercules. “Tanked Aftershow” will bow on March 22 and follow linear episode premieres of “Tanked.” The companion show will offer behind-the-scenes stories about each episode televised that night.

On April 6, Animal Planet will debut “Hell Cats Revisited: How Do You Like Meow?” online. Series catches up with the cat owners featured on “My Cat From Hell.” “How to Catch a River Monster” will bow on the cabler’s site on April 7 and reveal how “River Monster” star Jeremy Wade captures the aquatic creatures featured on Animal Planet’s most-watched series. Finally, “Turtleman Takes Manhattan” follows “Call of the Wildman” star Ernie Brown, Jr. as he explores big-city life in Gotham. “Turtleman” will premiere in May.

Animal Planet webisodes will be available at AnimalPlanet.com.
