4Q profit propels Netflix shares

Streaming service adds over 2 million U.S. subs

Netflix surprised Wall Street by reporting a fourth-quarter profit Wednesday, sending shares up a hefty 25% in after-hours trading.

Despite analyst expectations of a loss, the Los Gatos, Calif.-based streaming service boasted an $8 million profit, reaching $945 million in revenues.

Netflix added 2.05 million U.S. subscribers, reaching a total of 27.15 million.
