VIDEO: Royal Baby Meets the Press

After more than 36 hours of waiting, the world’s media was finally satiated when it got the first glimpse of the future King of England at 7.13p.m. BST Tuesday  (11.13a.m. PST).

The Duke and Duchess of Cambridge descended upon the steps of the Lindo Wing at St. Mary’s Hospital in London on Tuesday evening with their newborn in tow.

Greeted by a swarm of international press and members of the public, the royal family posed for pictures on the very same steps that Prince Charles and Princess Diana posed with their newborn sons many years ago.

The couple, both dressed in baby blue, stepped forward to take a few questions from the media and Prince William, cradling his son, said: “Well, he has a good pair of lungs on him, that’s for sure.”

He added the pair were “still working on a name.”

The couple said the experience had been “very emotional” and Kate added that it was “a special time for any parent.”

In his final comments, William spoke of the baby’s hair: “He’s got way more than me,” the Duke quipped before thanking those outside and going back into the hospital.

The couple then placed their son in a car seat before coming back out to a flash of cameras and loading him into a black Range Rover before William drove his family back to Kensington Palace.

Kate and William are said to be spending a few days at the Palace before heading up to Bucklebury, Berkshire, to spend some time with Kate’s family.

Media continued to be on high alert throughout the day on Tuesday, with members still camped outside of the hospital and Buckingham Palace throughout the day.

Royal bells rang at Westminster Abbey, where Kate and William were married, for more than three hours in London while a traditional gun salute was carried out during the day to celebrate the royal birth.

The Duchess’s parents, Carole and Michael Middleton, visited the couple at the hospital earlier this afternoon, as did Prince Charles and his wife Camilla.

Sky News and BBC News continued to devote coverage to the birth all day.
