Steve Elzer Sony Publicist Exit

Elzer will depart at the end of the year

Steve Elzer, Sony’s senior VP of media relations, announced Tuesday he is leaving the company in December.

“I have had an extraordinary run here and I have nothing but the greatest respect for the team at Sony,” Elzer said in a personal email to associates.

Elzer spent nearly 12 years at the studio and his departure comes after Sony tapped crisis PR veteran Charles Sipkins as head of communications. “I will remain onboard to assist (marketing prexy) Marc Weinstock and Charlie Sipkins with the transition, wrap up existing business, and start to plan for the future.”

Sipkins declined to comment.

Elzer earned friendship and respect from many Hollywood journalists for his collaborative attitude on even the toughest assignments. The former New Line Cinema PR chief joined Columbia TriStar Motion Picture Group as a senior veepee of media relations in 2002.

  1. Steve was instructive and helpful when we launched Below the Line in 2001. Even though we were the new kids on the block, Steve treated me like a veteran (and there were some tough meetings!) He stayed in touch long after I left BTL. I could cold call anytime to run a new idea or project by him…and he always gave thoughtful input. Cheers Steve!
