South East Asian Animation Sells at ATF

'Strika' Singapore animation

SINGAPORE – Singapore’s MediaCorp and Malaysia’s Animasia have licensed two sports-themed animation properties to MediaCorp Suria, a Bahasa Melayu-language free-to-air channel in Malaysia.

The pair sold 39-episode “Supa Strikas” to the channel which began broadcasting the soccer-themed show from last week. It will run on Fridays through to the end of the soccer World Cup in mid-2014. They also sold ‘Bola Kampung The Movie,” which Suriya will show in June on the eve of the football competition.

“With World Cup happening in 2014, we anticipate the football fever to hit almost everyone,” said Zakiah Halim, senior VP of MediaCorp’s Malay Broadcast Division.

The “Bola Kampung” series is licensed by Cartoon Network Asia and “Supa Strikas” (pictured) is shown in over 136 countries with licensees including Disney XD.

In a separate deal Singapore-based August Media Holdings has licensed Season 1 of its pre-school animated series, “Ella Bella Bingo” Al Jazeera Children’s Channel (JCC), now known as Jeem TV. The deal gives JCC exclusive Arabic-language rights to the show in the Middle East and North African countries.

Co-produced by August Media Holdings and Norway’s Kool Produktion, “Ella Bella Bingo” is directed by the BAFTA winner Ginger Gibbons and scripted by Sam Barlow.

Both deals were unveiled on the first full day of the Asian TV Forum in Singapore.
