Ramer, who has been among the more prominent donors and supporters to Republicans in recent cycles, was first nominated to the board in 2008 by President George W. Bush. He served as chairman the past two years, when the org defended federal funding of public broadcasting against threat of cuts from congressional Republicans.
Obama also nominated Jannette L. Dates to the board of CPB. The former dean of the Howard University School of Communications, Dates has been a guest speaker on NPR’s “All Things Considered” and “On the Media,” and has anchored and produced other public TV productions.
