Nikki Finke Exit Deadline Hollywood

Nikki Finke is exiting her post as Editor in Chief of Deadline Hollywood, the entertainment news website she founded in 2006.

Deadline.com is owned by Penske Media Corp., parent company of Variety. Finke’s departure from Deadline has been the subject of discussion in media and showbiz circles for several months.

Deadline will continue its operations with Michael Fleming Jr. overseeing film coverage and Nellie Andreeva spearheading television. Pete Hammond continues as Awards Editor and David Lieberman serves as executive editor of the site driving business and financial coverage based out of Gotham.

Finke has been a prominent voice in the industry for decades, but never more so since she became a digital pioneer with Deadline Hollywood. The site was initially affiliated with the LA Weekly through Finke’s role as the alternative newsweekly’s Hollywood columnist.

Finke made her mark online with non-stop coverage of the Writers Guild of America strike that hobbled Hollywood in late 2007 and early 2008. Her trademark no-holds-barred writing style and aggressive reporting has won her many fans as well as detractors in entertainment and media circles.

In 2009, Deadline Hollywood was acquired by PMC, which expanded its operations, reach and staffers.
