George Zimmerman’s not guilty verdict was one of the biggest media stories of the year, and now it seems that story is far from over: Zimmerman was charged with assault and battery on Monday after a dispute at his girlfriend’s home.
A Seminole County chief deputy told ABC News that Zimmerman’s girlfriend, who phoned 911, claimed he pointed a gun at her in the dispute before pushing her out of their Apopka, Fla., home.
Zimmerman is scheduled to be booked into jail pending arraignment.
The former neighborhood watch volunteer was acquitted earlier this year of all charges in the fatal shooting of Trayvon Martin.
News outlets were quick to cover the story on Monday in what will likely spark additional debates over the Zimmerman incident.
