Derek Cianfrance to Helm 'The Light

Film is based on debut novel by M.L. Stedman

DreamWorks has tapped “Blue Valentine” helmer Derek Cianfrance to direct “The Light Between Oceans,” the company announced Tuesday.

Pic is based on the debut novel from M.L. Stedman and will be produced by Heyday Films’ David Heyman, along with Jeffrey Clifford.

Rosie Alison, who brought the book into Heyday, will exec produce.

Story takes place after WWI on a remote Australian island where a lighthouse keeper and his wife face a moral dilemma when a dead man and a 2-month-old infant wash up in a boat on shore.

CAA reps Cianfrance, who recently helmed “The Place Beyond the Pines.”
