'Beyond Beauty - Taiwan From Above'

Aerial film is third highest of 2013

HONG KONG – Aerial feature “Beyond Beauty: Taiwan From Above” has become the highest grossing documentary of all time at the Taiwanese box office and the third placed local film of the year.

The film has grossed NT$62 million (US$2.11 million) in the 18 days since its Nov. 1 release, according to distributor Activator Marketing. It is currently playing on 51 screens across the territory and Activator says it hopes “Beauty” can continue its theatrical run until late Jan 2014 and the Chinese New year holidays.

“Beauty” overtook last year’s “Go Grandriders,” a warm portrayal of 17 old aged motorcyclists on a bike tour, as the top doc. And it lies behind local comedies “David Loman”: and “Zone Pro Site” among 2013 Taiwanese film releases.

It was directed and filmed by Chi Po-lin on a budget of $3 million. Chi has said that the film, which mixes stunning shots of untouched nature and other sites heavily influenced by human activity, will serve as a message about environmental protection.

“Beauty” was also set as the opening film of the inaugural Taoyuan Film Festival.
