Yellow Bird to adapt ‘Will Trent’ novels

Karin Slaughter trilogy to lense in Georgia

Yellow Bird, the Swedish shingle behind “The Girl With the Dragon Tattoo” and Kenneth Branagh starrer “Wallander,” has nabbed the rights to crime novel series “Will Trent” from U.S. author Karin Slaughter.

Yellow Bird, owned by pan-European media group Zodiak Media, will produce three TV pics based on the series, kicking off with “Triptych.”

Novels turn on Trent, a special agent at the Georgia Bureau of Investigation, his partner Faith Mitchell and their boss Amanda Wagner as they solve crimes.

Yellow Bird’s Berna Levin and Marianne Gray are producing. Slaughter has been tapped to pen the first script and exec produce with Yellow Bird’s Ole Sondberg and CEO Anni Faurbye Fernandez.

While Yellow Bird raised the financing in Europe, the TV trilogy will lense in Atlanta, Georgia, where the novels are set.

Other upcoming Yellow Bird productions include the adaptation of Johan Theorin’s novel “Echoes From the Dead.”
