Yahoo, NBC team on sports

Pair partner for newsgathering, programming but remain independent

The sports divisions of Yahoo and NBC are aligning for both newsgathering and programming.

Reporters employed by Yahoo Sports, including Dan Wetzel and Adrian Wojnarowski, will team with on-air Peacock talent, such as Bob Costas and Mike Florio, to work on major stories. The website and the network will, however, retain separate newsrooms and control of their own digital properties.

As part of the deal, Yahoo will now link to and promote select events being live streamed on, including “Sunday Night Football” and the “NHL Game of the Week,” as soon as the league returns to the ice at the conclusion of the current labor stalemate.

The sales divisions of Yahoo and NBC will work in unison to give ad clients package deals on both digital and television.

“The complementary nature of this partnership is unmatched in digital sports media,” said NBC Sports Group chairman Mark Lazarus. “We are committed to continually growing this alliance for the benefit of both parties, our sports-property partners and, most importantly, sports fans.”
