Upcoming third season of high-rated zombie series to be split in two

The third season of AMC’s “The Walking Dead” is set to debut Oct. 14.

Similar to the second season, cabler is splitting the season into two. The final eight episodes of the season is set to launch in February.

Show has always been a huge ratings grabber. Season two ended in March with a series-best 9 million viewers tuning in for the finale, including 6 million in the 18-49 demo.

“The Walking Dead” is based on the comic book series by Robert Kirkman, who exec produces with showrunner Glen Mazzara, Gale Anne Hurd and David Alpert.

Following the preem, AMC will air Chris Hardwick-hosted “Talking Dead,” which recaps the skein, and Kevin Smith-produced “Comic Book Men.”
